FOOTPRINTS

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from His life.
For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand.
One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of His life flashed before Him,
He looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of His life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened
at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.

This really bothered Him
and He questioned the LORD about it.
LORD you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you most
you would leave me.

The LORD replied, my precious, precious child,
I Love you and I would never leave you!
During your times of trial and suffering
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.

Carolyn Carty, 1963

this has to be one of my favorite poems, alongside "the road not taken". when i was looking it up to copy, i found out that there were three versions created. weird huh? i wonder if they just modified the previous one. i dunno. oh yah, happy belated easter and happy belated birthday to kellyjean and my cousin ryanboy=P!

so i was at holy thursday mass and i reflected a lot that night..i haven't been the greatest practicing catholic this year. i am sad to admit that. but i guess a lot of stuff has happened that got me to really question my faith. sounds terrible doesn't it? it's so selfish of me to say to God "why would you make people suffer like that?" "how could you let that happen?"..but in a helpless situation, that was my reaction. during the mass, i was getting angry at God for all the bad that has ever happened. then i felt guilty for having such a negative attitude and i tried to remember to keep my faith, knowing that He will always be watching over me and guiding me. but sometimes it's just so hard for me.

geez i feel so bad right now. it's such a crappy feeling to have so many things bottled up inside of you and then to blame the one person I know who always watches over me and forgives me for my stupid mistakes. i think i need to grow more in faith. i need to have a better understanding of things. i remember during our kairos retreat senior year in high school, one of the topics was how some people view God. One of the choices was a Santa Claus God, one you always turn to when you want something. I know as a little kid I would always pray for things i wanted..like the new toy, the new clothes, material things like that. Nowadays, it's more of a prayer to God to guide me in the right direction. Is that still being selfish of me? I don't know.

Whew, too serious of a blog for me..tomorrow i'll go back to normal..reminders on: paintballing, snowboarding, dinner with the girls, boyfriend's cool camera, and so on..adios.

Avoiding the phrase “I don’t have time...”, will soon help you to realize that you do have the time needed for just about anything you choose to accomplish in life.
-Bo Bennett

i remember boyfriend talking about how we're traveling/taking up all these hobbies so late in our lives..like he feels old now doing all this stuff that we could've done back in our "younger" days..ha..geez we're not old oooooooold yet!=P..i mean, all i can say to that is..at least we're doing these things now..we're motivated to travel EVERYWHERE...we keep ourselves busy taking up new things..trying new things..as long as we all make the most of everything right?..hehe and besides..i think it would be kind of hard to do all these things like 5 years ago!..i know i didn't have enough $$ to pay for this stuff..actually..i still don't..haha..but i'm making it a point to keep an active life before i can't anymore..make sense?

i'm still kind of shocked that after our first marathon..we're still hyped up to run future marathons..i guess the first one is always the kicker..to see if you like running or not..kind of like what richard gere told julia roberts about opera's in pretty women..something like:

EDWARD
Some people say that opera is an
acquired taste, but I don't
believe it. You can always tell
when someone goes to the opera
for the first time. They either
love it or hate it. Those who
love it will always love it; those
who hate it might come to
appreciate it, but they'll never
truly love it.

yah..running is like that..hahah..okay maybe overdramatic..but still..and it's okay, i don't mind quoting pretty woman=P..anyways..i think me & jovan have succeeded in recruiting future marathoners..woohoo team sore knees is movin' on up!!..hehe

dude, so i was in the field listening to am radio right? and all of the sudden i hear a radio commercial for uci extension classes..you'd think the lady would talk about the classes they offer and stuff..instead it's like some story of how her 2 classmates met, they went out, opened a business & are now getting married..haha..and then she goes on talking about how joining extension classes you can network, make friends..and EVEN meet your soul mate..hahah i was cracking up already...it was sooo funny..forget promoting the school for educational purposes, why don't we turn the school into some kind of hook-up session..heheh..anyways, i thought it was pretty hilarouso=P

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this week feels like a doozy..at least it's hump day.....

Each time you are honest and conduct yourself with honesty, a success force will drive you toward greater success. Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are strong forces pushing you toward failure.
-Joseph Sugarman

ehhh sucks to be in on mondays..at least today seems to be going by pretty fast. happy birthday jenn-tot!!! hope you have a faaaabulous day today! Glad we got to kick it on friday for your ummm..sorta surprise party..haha always trying to find out what's going on!..

man, the 2 games i love playing at dnb's are the basketball game and the car racing games..what sucks is when people decide to play like 20 bball games in a row, knowing that everyone is waiting in line for these jerk offs to finish..but what feels good is finally being able to play and beating their butts in the game..haha..bitter much? me? of course not..i just like to have fun with these games=P...but i could be a bit bitter in the 2 daytona games that tinz, jovan, me & lou played..how come both games i thought i was about to win..then one of these 2 guys had to come out of nowhere and beat me..blah!!..nonetheless, good times on friday..as always=)

so i've been having these weird dreams lately..and the thing i hate about these dreams is that they always remind me of things that have/could have happened..and i know it's just a dream..but it always seems to spark up issues that i would like to be over and done with..it sucks you know?..i wake up..and i get reminded of certain issues..and it starts to make me question things again..more like, i get angry at things from the past..i know i know...stop dwelling about past issues..concentrate on how well i have it right now..and how great things will be in the future right?..i know..i must be pms'ing..i always seem to get like this around this time..sucks..but i'm okay..

One of the good things about getting older is you find you're more interesting than most of the people you meet.
-Lee Marvin

i remember when i started college, i'd see the high school kids and be like..man, did i look that young..act that stupid/annoying/retarded?..then i graduated college..and now, when i go to pick up/drop off my little sister at uci i see all the freshman and think the same thing..seriously, we thought we were the ish back then right? well y'know, we still are=P..haha i'm just saying though..were we all like that? or is it just a generation gap thing? i know when my older sister was in high school..i'd think they were old..then when i started high school..i'd compare my high school year to her's, and be like..maaaaaaaaaan, you guys looked way older than we did..haha, and i'd do the same thing to her when i was in college..i wonder if that's what my little sister thinks about me and my friends..grrreat!

so anyways, i totally had to blog about this when it happened..okay, i was studying at the barnes and noble by my house..cuz we gots to get to studying yo!..alright anyways, this barnes is freaking noisy! well the first 2 hours were cool..pretty productive..then around 8-815, a huuuuuuuuuuge (okay not huge, maybe like 10) group of high school kids come in..and of course the four loud ones decide to sit by me..so i try to zone them out..but i end up hearing snippets of their conversations...man, it's not that i want to listen..they're just so freaking loud! so yah i'm thinking to myself..dude, didn't you come here to study? they lay out all their books..and start talking about a problem..then they just talk..and talk..and talk..hahah which kinda reminded me of how me and my roomies would go study somewhere..and yah..we should've studied..but instead our minds wandered to the latest cheese wiz..haha..so i guess we were all annoying like that=P

so fine..they can talk..whatever!..then i hear someone say..blah blah "..uci"...so i start to listen..hehe..and i hear the one asian guy (i shall remind you, i live in a predominantly caucasian area..hahah, so in every group of 5 or so white people you'll see one of us colored folk up in the mix=P)..in the whole group say:

asian dude: yah i think i'm going to uci
cool dude: really? was that your first choice?
skater dude: i picked uci too, but i want to go to usc soooo bad
asian dude: EVERYONE gets into uci
alternativy chick: really?
asian dude: yah, no one EVER gets rejected from them!!

to which point i quietly chuckle but at the same time feel defensive..like..heyyyyyyyyyy what're you trying to say about uci huh?..we're all intellectuals here!=P..so blah on you! so that's the basis of my blog..these little hs seniors making me feel old..yet at that same time me reminiscing that i used to be that retarded too=P..ahhh the good ol days..

I have said nothing because there is nothing I can say that would describe how I feel as perfectly as you deserve it.
-Kyle Schmidt

i'd say this past weekend was somewhat study productive..haha..although my studying didn't start until 530pm on sunday..i met up w/ tinz at the borders near her around 4..only to find out that it was way crowded..so we go to the barnes across the street..no study tables..let's try starbucks..no room..we figure, let's try borders again..ha, no luck again..so we end up at the starbucks down the street from her house, and finally..we get to studying..pretty productive..i tried again studying yesterday..i think i need to be away from any desk at home..it's too distracting..i mean, even if i don't have the computer or tv on i still look around and my mind wanders..whereas if i'm at the library i have nothing to look at except for a desk and books..or at starbucks/borders..i zone out with the music and my yummy chai tea latte and i can get things done..dude, exactly one month til my test..i really need to get it together...

buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut besides studying..i'd say the highlight of the weekend was boyfriend taking me out on saturday..hehe..i guess you could call it a post valentine's/extremely belated birthday for me..i dunno..post valentine's cuz he was away in the p.i. and belated bday present b/c this was the place he was suppose to take me the night after the scorpio corner office party..but my ass was too hungover to go out and drink again the next night..haha..so finally we got a free saturday night and he surprised me=)..

we went to the long beach aquarium in the day..haha pretty cool place..we saw a bunch of jellyfish/nemo's/sharks/sting rays/puffins/sea lions/otters/sea anemone/camoflauge sea horses/monster sized lobsters/etc...check it out:

these are cool little jellyfish that emit red/green colors..they may look cool but i still wouldn't want to be stung by one.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
ehhhhhhhhhhhh look at all the shark's freaking teeth...a-scari!! haha

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
this was taken near the puffins exhibit area..if you look closely, you'll see they're from the "aleutian islands"..which is the place boyfriend told me he was from freshman year (through aol..remember when that was the in thing freshman year?)...so all freshman year i thought lou was an eskimo from the aleutian islands..hahah and i totally believed him..hel-loooo he has so much facial hair..that's not a normal filipino!!...love you boyfriend..ha! so i didn't find out that he was filipino until halog set me straight and told everyone in their dorm that i thought lou was an eskimo..grrrrrrreat=P

so to continue..here's the dope place boyfriend took me too for my belated bday=P

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
it was niiiiiiiiice...the view we got was awesome..food..thumbs up..service..excelente!..wine...yum-o (as rachel ray would say..haha)

mmmm..pinot noir..i like white wines better..but this red wine had a smooth buttery taste to it..mmm..would've loved it if they gave me cheese!!

thank you again boyfriend for taking me out on saturday..one of our bestest dates ever ever ever..

oh yah, before i forget..i finally got my slr pics from mammoth up..sorry can you tell i'm enjoying posting pics on my blog now?

The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.
-Vince Lombardi

2 days after the marathon..and i feel almost fully recovered..hehe i took 2 days off from work to get back to normal..y'all know i have bad knees..so right after we finished on sunday, the knees gave in and i couldn't even bend them..so i figure it's better to just rest and ice them and pile on the salonpas patches and whatdoyahknow..i'm feeling a lot better now..

soooooooo before i go on..woohoo to my marathon compadres: jovan, ricardo & cris..we freaking finished! i'm still in shock that we just ran that far, but for reals..crossing that finish line was such a great feeling..dude, i don't know how i finished..i mean..most of the run went a lot better than i expected. i know jovan recapped a lot of it..hehe, and yes we all have our own run to finish, and i'm glad we did=P

- mile 1
..zigzagging past the thousands of people was pretty hilarious..it was like a madhouse man!

- mile 3
, damnit, the nervousness went away but not my bladder..the lines for the nasty port-o-potties were forever long!

- mile 6
, okay i swear this is the last time i need to use the bathroom..haha..oh yah and i saw some lady peeing behind a tree since the lines were so long..funny!

- mile 7-12
..hearing all the encouragement from the l.a. crowd..seriously, it was really nice of all these people to come out and show support..y'know hearing the maracas, little kids yelling "oranges & lemons" "oranges & lemons!!", clanging pots & pans, the hoses being used to sprinkle us, ..ahahah, having my name butchered: "gooooo christinabelle!, gooooo christybella!, gooooo chrissy!, and then the settlement for "gooooo sky blue!! hehe since i was wearing a blue top. ah well..i know they meant well=)

- mile 13..i'm all excited that we're halfway through right? i'm feeling the crowd encouraging all us runners..the adrenaline's going..haha then i hear one of the water volunteers yell out, "...go runners, mile 13..you got a looooooooooooong way to go!" ha, why thank you for reminding us..just thought that was funny.

- mile 16, dang curson st and your uphill run! dude, i know this has no comparison to the hills ricardo was talking about for the s.f. marathon..but man, hills are hills, and they kicked my bootie=P...and of course..someone was booming the rocky instrumental from their house..yeeha!

- mile 19, hehe hearing these two ladies behind me start singing rocky's "eye of the tiger" to keep themselves motivated..good choice!

- mile 21
, and hear is when my race became more mental than physical..i got a stomach cramp on my left side=(..we were doing so well following the pacing group..but alas, i had to fall behind..couldn't run with the cramp..so i had to start walking..maaaaaaaan..but i needed the rest..cuz i started coughing like crazy...so i stretched some..made sure to walk with good posture so that i wouldn't feel the cramp..some man walks with me and says "wow, for mile 21, you still walk with some composure"..hahah nah, i'm just trying to hide the pain i'm in=P

-miles 22-24
..on & off with the running..i keep reminding myself that i want to finish in under 5hrs,30 mins..and then you hear all the cheers..you hear even firefighters and police officers cheering for you..and another dude runs w/ me and reminds me how the last 2 miles feel like the longest 2 you've ever ran..

- mile 25..only 1.2 miles to go..i see the library tower..i'm almost there..there's no way i'm walking this last mile..so off i go running..i keep repeating this one marathon billboard i saw..something about how runners will still swagger all the way to the finish line..haha that was the motivation..my cramp was killing my side..but there was no way i was going to walk..i saw the banner for mile 26..looked straight ahead...the yellow finish line was only 2 blocks away..i was crossing alone..hehe and what do i do, make sure i'm smiling for those cameras while i cross that line..muahahha..one of the best feelings ever!

..thanx to all for your encouragement..we'll do this again next year??=)

All your life you are told the things you cannot do.
All your life they will say you're not good enough or strong enough or talented enough; they will say you're the wrong height or the wrong weight or the wrong type to play this or be this or achieve this.
THEY WILL TELL YOU NO, a thousand times no, until all the no's become meaningless.
All your life they will tell you no, quite firmly and very quickly.
AND YOU WILL TELL THEM YES.
-Nike ad

wahoooooooooooo..it's freaking marathon time in 2 days..last run was yesterday..short 2 miler..now it's time to rest up the muscles, eat some good carbs, get some mental preparation going, buy some last minute power gels & advil=P, pick up my marathon package today after work..and i should be good to go..i'm so nervous but at the same time so excited to finally be doing this..i do hope that i can finish..hehe..you know..you can track me & jovan down by going here. pretty nifty eh? so yah, you might see me slowing down when i hit the 15 mark..grrrrrrrreat..i hope though that i can even make it that far..being hit with the flu during training really sucked man..oh well..we'll see how it goes on sunday..wish me luck=P

Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.
-G. K. Chesterton

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...stupid black pathfinder on the freeway this morning! grrr..freaking a..that car almost caused me a huge ass collision this morning on the way to work..i have no idea why he did it, but all of the sudden this passport swerves PARALLEL into my lane..luckily enough for me, i wasn't too engrossed in kevin & bean this morning that i was able to react quick enough and swerve out of my lane..i can only be so thankful that there was no car to the right of me..otherwise,
alternate ending #1: i most likely would've caused a nasty sideswipe and that stupid pathfinder would've just kept riding along not even caring that he caused an accident..

instead we get this true ending:

i swerve into the empty lane on my right..mr. pathfinder swerves into my lane not even realizing i'm there..i'm in so much shock that as much as i love honking at mofo's like him..i couldn't..instead i roll down my window to yell at him, then figure forget it..my road rage wouldn't help right now..after mr. pathfinder realizes he doesn't like my lane..he freaking swerves like a madman into his left lane and ends up screeching on his breaks..thus causing the gardener truck that he just cut off to rear end him..and so as i pull away from this crazy driver, i see in my rearview that all traffic is stopped behind this stupid guy who cannot drive worth peanuts and just caused a major backup on the 5..idiot!

and now, i'm thanking God and my lucky stars for giving me a quick reaction to that jerk to move out of my lane in time and for making sure that there was no car to the right of me..i am so grateful right now. thank you! my hands were so clammy after that and i was so shaken..ahhhhh...anyways..i hope the cars behind that stupid driver are all okay!

hmm let's see..this weekend i was finally able to make it out to borders on saturday and sunday! yup, that's 2 days in a row..on the same subject yes, stuck on several problems yes, but it's a start..now i have a month & a half to study like a billion more topics..hehe

it's been over two weeks since my last run..i'm still a bit coughy..but i think i'm coughing up the good kind of phlegm now..there is such a thing right? so i had my first run today..it felt really good..sure it was only a 2 mile run..but that's what the schedule called for today..hehe...it kinda scared me that i had to start coughing afterwards..only 5 more days til marathon day..2 more days of running..then it's all mental preparation and carbo loading from friday on..ahhhhh!!
